If Kisaragi were returning, he could have forced Utahoshi to take it easy and Ryusei wouldn't have to scrounge for something to say like this. Utahoshi and Tomoko were the only people with whom Ryusei could hear himself think, but this was just too quiet. What would Kisaragi normally talk about? Something inane, Ryusei was sure.

He glanced up at Utahoshi through his hair, observed him for a moment. Did it seem as if...? "Utahoshi-kun? Are you nervous about something?"

Bored, maybe? Was it that much of a sacrifice to sit here with Ryusei? But... he was still here. It couldn't have been that much of a sacrifice. Or maybe Ryusei just wanted to believe that.
